Overview

In this assignment, you will report the challenges faced by your selected marginalized population as well as the roles a counselor and organization should play when helping these individuals and families meet and overcome their challenges. You should also provide information regarding strategies and resources for working with your selected population. For the challenges faced by your chosen population, you may refer to your textbook, outside literature, or personal experiences.

Preparation

For this assignment, you may choose to create either a PowerPoint presentation or a professional memo that advocates for the marginalized population you explored in the previous assignment.

Templates are available for both the PowerPoint presentation and professional memo formats of the assignment. Select the template that applies to the approach you prefer to take while completing this assignment. Be sure to employ evidence and research-based reasoning to support your argument. Where appropriate, use anecdotal evidence referring to clients and students to emphasize the human and emotional elements of the issue you are addressing. Additionally, keep in mind that you are advocating in your role as a counseling professional on behalf of the clientele and student population that you serve, so your voice is that of your counseling specialization. You are representing the profession, so make sure that your presentation is based on research and facts rather than solely personal opinions.

Then use your selected template to complete the following:

For each prompt, you need to have two full paragraphs. There should be two paragraphs i.e For population rational and personal impact, at least two paragraphs. More than likely more, but at least two paragraphs. And a paragraph is not two sentences, a paragraph is at least four or five sentences.

Population Concerns.

   • Describe three characteristics and three concerns of the population.
2. Population Rationale and Personal Impact – Here, you’re going to talk about why did you select that population? Secondly, explain the personal impact of the immersive experience.

3. Ethical Codes and Advocacy –  This part is important, because a lot of times, students make mistakes on this one. What are you doing here? You’re going to find ethical codes from ACA, Code of Ethics, and ASCA.  It has to be professional codes. So, like, family, marriage and family folks may have their own ethical codes, addiction folks may have ethical codes, those are fine. It has to be a professional code whatever the code is, e.g AB21, you, write the code and explain it in your own words. Please do not copy and paste, okay? And don’t just say ACBCDT1 and leave it at that. ACBCDC1,
   • Describe three professional ethical codes that guide counselors toward multicultural and diversity competence.
   • Explain one code that provides guidelines for advocacy.
4. Three Challenges.
   • Explain how three challenges for a selected population impact mental health and help-seeking.
5. Three Strategies.
   • Explain how three strategies a counselor could adopt might help address the challenges for a selected population.
6. Legislative Policy.
   • Explain how a specific legislative or policy action could benefit a selected population.

Your paper should meet the following requirements:

• Template: Use either the Advocacy for Marginalized Population [DOCX] memo template or the Advocacy for Marginalized Population [PPTX] presentation template to complete this assignment.
• Written communication: Written communication must be grammatically correct and free of errors that detract from the overall message. Writing should be consistent with the graduate-level scholarship. Note: Because this is your own reflection, you may write it in the first person.
• APA format: References should be formatted according to APA style and formatting.
• Number of resources: A minimum of four scholarly sources from peer-reviewed journals, textbooks or reputable associations or organizations, such as the American Counseling Association (ACA), American School Counselor Association (ASCA), National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH), and National Institutes of Health (NIH), published within the past five years.
